Facebook Messenger for Windows 7

Facebook is in the process of adding more and more features and improvements to its social networking tool. Along with the new layout and timeline feature, Facebook is also testing a new desktop messenger (chat) for Windows for chat. First thought, anyone would ask, why the need for a dedicated Windows client when many of apps have this feature for Facebook and for chat the web version also has the support. But Facebook seems to be testing the new Windows based messenger app for chat along with notifications. Although the app is not yet released for public, it was made available to testers. Here are few screenshots and features from the app.

The app lists out all your friends and shows then as online or offline. It also shows your friend requests, messages and also notifications. There is also a ticker for all the notifications from your friends. The best feature of the app is probably the integration with OS. For any comments, likes or other friend requests, the app shows a notification similar to Outlook new email notification. The chat is also pretty good with tabbed interface and has similar features like any other chat client (shows yellow color for new messages in chat). As of now there is no emoticons support, but might come at a later stage. You can also dock it to the sidebar of Windows and it will be visible all the time, even if you open other window.

Overall the app looks good, although there is no option to update status messages. The app is purely for chatting purpose. If you want to check out this app, head over to this link to download the version.
